Vanilla Brioche French Toast
Everyone knows how to make French toast and while it’s not a dish you need a recipe to be able to make I’m sharing the way we make and love it in our house. No bits of floating cinnamon but I promise between the nutmeg, butter and vanilla we use instead you won’t miss it.
I make this pretty often so it absolutely serves as an everyday breakfast but it also doubles as a great centerpiece for a holiday or casual brunch.
Now French toast isn’t a complicated dish so we’ll keep it that way here but the next you make it consider swapping using a buttery loaf of brioche and adding a few pantry staples for a delicious and beautiful start to your day!
Recipe:
1 sliced brioche loaf (Aldi & Trader Joe’s have delicious and reasonably priced options!)
3 large eggs
1 tbsp. butter (melted)
1 tbsp. granulated sugar
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp fresh grated nutmeg
1 cup half & half (you can substitute for your preferred milk)
In a bowl or baking dish add eggs, butter, sugar, vanilla, nutmeg and half & half whisking to combine. Dip the sliced brioche in the egg mixture and cook over medium heat in a well buttered pan (alternatively use a countertop griddle to move through a large batch quickly). Cook until golden brown (3-5 minutes), flip, repeat and enjoy!
Note: I make an entire loaf freezing whatever is left from breakfast for a quick hot option for breakfast during the week before school!
I hope you try it and love it. If you do be sure to let us know!
